One.Bio is a fast-paced emerging biotechnology spinout from UC Davis focused on creating ingredients for food, agriculture, and biopharmaceutical applications. We utilize proprietary technology to produce novel oligosaccharides from natural products, aiming to improve microbiome modulation, immune function, and overall health benefits.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Pilot Plant Operator to join our rapidly growing team. This position will report to the Pilot Plant Manager, with responsibility for unit operation, basic maintenance and inspection, and cleaning of pilot plant equipment used in the production of the next generation of dietary fiber. The role requires a focus on basic pilot lab operation, chemical handling and lab safety. With an emphasis on complete operation logs and batch card recording. Experience in or with a basic understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in production is highly desirable for this position.
The person will be required to work both independently, but also with the internal analytical, process chemistry and engineering teams. Previous experience in the biotechnology, food or fermentation business will set the candidate apart.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Preparation: Assemble, disassemble, and prepare process equipment for chemical reactions, with post-reaction cleaning.
- Media Preparation: Prepare chemical media, stock solutions, and buffers according to standard operating procedures (SOP’s), with accurate calculation of any necessary adjustments.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed batch records, ensuring complete documentation of process operation using a standard batch card.
- Lab Maintenance: Maintain up to date inspections on unit operation skids, with a basic ability using hand tools to repair skids.
- Inventory Management: Maintain regular inventory of chemicals, equipment and ingredients, coordinating with other departments when low, and communicating with the supervisor for ordering.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues in real-time, notifying supervisors and coordinating with other personnel as necessary.
- Product campaigns: Assist product specific campaigns to generate final product from upstream to downstream and evaporation or spray drying.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with standard lab safety practices and standard chemical safety around chemicals.
- Familiarity with standard operation procedures (SOP’s) and the ability to follow directions in a step wise method.
- A basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical safety around unit operations.
- Previous experience working in a lab, brewery or a similar environment with knowledge of sanitary procedures and equipment.
- Basic mathematical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel) and basic computer operations.
- Ability to communicate or escalate issues promptly, with common organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Physical capability to stand for long periods and lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
Shift Details:
- The position involves working in the morning and or afternoon/evening shifts. Flexibility is required during the training period, which may involve varying hours until fully trained.
