Pluton is looking for a research associate that will contribute to laboratory, greenhouse, and fieldwork efforts, supporting the development and testing of innovative microbial products to enhance soil health and promote sustainable agriculture.

Pluton Biosciences is an AgTech startup working to help combat climate change through innovation in agriculture. We are looking for a Research Assistant to join our team and develop microbial products capable of fixing nitrogen and capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to enrich agricultural soils. Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory, greenhouse and field experiments involving microorganisms
- Assist in preparation of materials for these experiments, including soil, media, petri plates, microorganisms, formulations, supplies, labels, etc.
- Process soil and other samples taken for chemical and biological analyses
- Execute certain biological and chemical analyses of samples from lab, greenhouse and field experiments and/or prepare samples for outside contracted analyses
- Maintain and update databases, including electronic notebook (required)
- Assist with off-site field experiments, that may include travel and overnight stays
- Optimize and troubleshoot protocols and standard operating procedures
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
- Collaborate with a diverse set of coworkers and communicate with them in a timely and respectful manner
- Effectively pivot among multiple tasks and responsibilities
- Analyze and present experimental data
- Review and analyze literature sources to aid in the tasks above
Requirements
- B.S. in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, or related field
- Understanding of generally accepted laboratory principles and experience with basic laboratory skills including use of micropipettes, balances, microscopes, etc.
- Comfortable with independent work while maintaining a high level of accuracy and detail
- Moderate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be willing to travel to field sites.
- Must be a team player.
- Ability to sit, stand, lift 20 pounds, and repetitive pipetting.
- Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States
Desired Qualifications:
- Greenhouse, field trial and horticultural experience a plus.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques and microbial culture growth preferred.

Salary
$45,000 - $55,000 per year
